Hello, happy Friday! :)
One of the most significant challenges with using chatbots for productivity has been the absence of automated retention.
Having to repeatedly remind chatbots of important details is incredibly time consuming, very limited users are likely to go in and manually edit the custom instructions. It feels much more natural to regulate what the bot recalls via text prompts.
So if you are someone who uses ChatGPT for content writing, research, strategy building or anything else, your life might just get a whole lot easier.
ChatGPT’s “Memory” feature is now available for all Plus users and it essentially allows the model to remember certain data inputs to personalise and make the conversation more fluid. Read on below for some realistic use-cases of this feature.
Memory is enabled automatically but users can turn it off in its settings.
So although the bot passively does gather this data, users can start a new conversation whenever they want ChatGPT to memorise something and make it more intentional with a simple “Remember this” to add to its memory.
It’s also important to know that ChatGPT will not automatically use your personal information to improve its models.
OpenAI's FAQ for the function explicitly states, "Memories may be used to train our models depending on your choices and plan,” but users can opt out of training future models (via Settings and Data controls) while keeping the Memory feature activated.
Let’s discuss some realistic use-cases for this feature and get you to try it out:
Project Continuity: For users working on long-term projects, such as writing a book, developing software, or planning an event, ChatGPT can remember key details and decisions from past interactions.
Learning and Education: Students using ChatGPT for learning and homework help can benefit from its memory capability as it can remember which subjects they are studying and adapt its explanations to the level of understanding shown previously.
Complex Task Management: Stuck managing complex tasks and schedules? ChatGPT can remember important dates, tasks, and preferences, and serve as an interactive to-do list or reminder tool that helps users stay organised over time.
Health and Wellness Tracking: Health and wellness enthusiasts can discuss their goals, progress, and strategies as the model can remember past conversations about dietary preferences, workout routines, or wellness goals.
Language Learning: Learning a new language can become quite easy as ChatGPT can remember their progress, frequently made mistakes, and areas of difficulty. You can thus revisit challenging concepts and vocabulary in subsequent interactions.
All in all, Memory is definitely a feature worth exploring. I’d love to know what you guys are gonna try and use it for.
